Nuttall’s Death Camas (Toxicoscordion nuttallii) – formerly and more commonly known as Zigadenus nuttallii. I saw several stands of these last Sunday as I traveled the route of our upcoming May 18 trip through the Kiamichi valley to the Red River. They were just starting to bloom, so I hope that some may still be blooming when we come by next week. Toxic to cattle. The “camas” part of the name comes from the important edible camas plant (Camissia quamash) native to the western US, but not Oklahoma.
